><p>The German version of this text was written by Simone Kobel, curator of the Schweizer Finanzmuseum (Swiss Financial Museum).<\/p>\n<h2>Background<\/h2>\n<p>Historically speaking, securities, bonds and all types of printed financial instruments are the fascinating younger sisters of coins and banknotes notes. Since their emergence in the 17th century, public limited companies and their securities have played a significant role in global economic history, a role that is no less important despite the digitalisation of recent decades. On 31 October 2001, SIX established the foundation Collection of Historical Securities. With this foundation, SIX aimed to acquire, maintain and expand the most important international collection of historical securities in terms of economic history.<\/p>\n<p>Hard to believe, but true: until a few years ago, Switzerland as a banking centre did not have a museum dedicated to the history of the financial market. The Swiss Finance Museum, which opened in Zurich in the summer of 2017, takes up this subject and presents economic history in an entertaining way. Highlights from the world&#8217;s most important collection of historical securities illustrate the development of the global economy from the 16th to the 21st century. The exhibition features share certificates of legendary companies from modern times, through the age of industrialisation, to the present day.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors are invited to learn about the key players, processes and developments in Switzerland&#8217;s financial centre in a playful way through audios, interactive films and touch-screen animations. For the first time, the public will have access to a simplified version of the training programme used to prepare stockbrokers for their work on the Swiss stock exchange.
