The first coins, as a category of archaeological finds, were added to the collection as early as 1900. From 1947 onwards, the coins found in Thuringia have been systematically collected and archived here. In addition to individual coin finds, especially from archaeological excavations and prospections, there are also larger treasure finds, so that a total of around 13,000 coins are in the collection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The coins archived in the TLDA are an important part of archaeological research, as coins can generally be dated and identified very precisely. They often date other archaeological finds found in the same context. Of course, the coins are also evaluated numismatically.
