The Instituto de Valencia de Don Juan museum is neither in the city of Valencia nor does it have anything to do with the famous Don Juan. But it has much to do with love, because the museum itself was a gift from the Duchess Doña Adelaida Crooke y Guzmán (XIII Countess of Valencia de Don Juan) to her husband, the Duke Don Guillermo de Osma y Scull, in 1916. As the Duke was an archaeologist, his wife certainly thought such a gift was only fitting. Ah, those were the days…
Today, this museum has a very interesting collection of various objects that the owners had collected, including one of the largest collections of Islamic numismatics in all of Spain. The coin collection does not seem to be always accessible, but it is worth making an effort to at least thank the Duchess Adelaida.
