Münster and Osnabrück: Connected by More Than the Peace of Westphalia
The Münster and Osnabrück region is a prime example of how individuals can influence the numismatic world. Peter Berghaus, who passed away in 2012, inspired many young people to pursue numismatics. His students went on to become university professors, museum curators, and set up their own coin shops. Continuing in the spirit of Peter Berghaus, they turned Westphalia and the Osnabrück region into a numismatic hotspot.
Today, the region is home to Europe’s largest numismatic auction house, some highly active museums and coin societies and demonstrates that the Battle of Arminius took place at Kalkriese rather than in the Teutoburg Forest. As you can see: It’s worth a visit!
