House of the pastor and Thuringian numismatist Johann Jacob Leitzmann (Erfurt 1798 – 1877 Tunzenhausen)

The Protestant village church of St. Peter and Paul is located in the Tunzenhausen district of the town of Sömmerda in the Sömmerda district in Thuringia. Opposite the church is the former rectory. A plaque in honor of Leitzmann was placed there in 1977.

Johann Jacob Leitzmann was a Protestant pastor (from 1831 in Tunzenhausen), bibliographer, numismatist and editor of the first scientific newspaper on the subject of numismatics. The Numismatic Newspaper, which he founded, was published in Weißensee from 1834 to 1873. He was also the author of a number of important works on numismatics, some of which are still valid today. His extensive coin collection was auctioned in Leipzig in 1880.
