If you are interested in Spanish numismatics, Jesús Vico S.A. is the place to go. Jesús Vico S.A. is both a coin dealership and an auction house. As one of Spain’s leading numismatic companies, the auctioneer enjoys an excellent reputation in the international coin world.
Of course, Jesús Vico S.A. specialises in Spanish coins – no matter where in the world they were minted. Anyone looking for important rarities from the Spanish Empire will find them at Jesús Vico. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that the auction house was part of the group of coin dealers that acquired the Archer M. Huntington Collection from the Hispanic Society of America. In three auctions, Jesús Vico S.A. brought some of the most important Hispanic numismatic treasures from this collection to the market.
Jesús Vico S.A. is also a leader in the field of ancient numismatics. The company prides itself on the expertise it has acquired over two generations. To guarantee the authenticity of their pieces, they collaborate with SECYR, a laboratory at the University of Madrid that specialises in material testing, conservation and restoration.
Of course, Jesús Vico also sells coins and medals from all over the world. These are offered in several auction sales held throughout the year – and the public auctions itself have become social events. There are also regular online auctions and an online shop. Finally, Jesús Vico works closely with the FNMT, the Spanish Mint.
Jesús Vico S.A. was founded by Jesús Vico Monteoliva, who opened his coin shop in Plaza Mayor in 1971. Since then, the company has moved to larger and newer premises on Calle Jorge Juan. In 1976, Jesús Vico S.A. held its first public auction. Julio Chico Escudero joined the company in 1986, and Segarra Numismatics in 2023.
Few people have had such a great impact on the numismatic community of their country as Jesús Vico Monteoliva. A true coin enthusiast, he founded his own publishing house for numismatic works. The most important work on Visigothic coinage was published there in 2007, with important contributions by the founder himself. Jesús Vico Monteoliva is a founding member of the Spanish coin dealers’ association AENP, which he chaired for 14 years. He has been a member of the IAPN since 1992. His son, Jesús Vico Belmonte, continues the family tradition with equal commitment. He is currently Vice-President of the IAPN, President of the AENP and initiator of the internationally acclaimed Evento Numismático in Madrid.
When you contact the Jesús Vico coin shop, you are dealing with people who love numismatics and who are committed to the strictest ethical and moral standards. This is why some Spanish museums prefer to make their purchases through Jesús Vico S.A. And these museums certainly know on whom they can rely!
Here you can find the website of the company.
Jesús Vico Belmonte can be found in our numismatic Who’s who.
By the way, we created an event site for the Evento Numismático.
